Plenary Session Agenda n. 458/I/5a Tuesday, 31 October 2006

Today’s Plenary Session was chaired by the President of the National Parliament, Mr. Francisco Guterres “Lu-Olo”, together with the Vice-secretaries, Mrs. Maria Avalziza Lourdes and Mrs. Maria Terezinha Viegas.

Two the items in today’s agenda:

* Presentation of the Candidates’ lists for the Superior Council for the Public Prosecution. The Fretelin Party Bench proposed two candidates: Mrs. Ivone Maria da Costa Guterres and Mr. Sérgio de Jesus Fernandes da Costa Ornai;

* Discussion of the Project of Resolution n. 82/I/5a. about the Creation of an ad hoc Committee to evaluate the report of the Independent Special Commission of Inquiry for Timor-Leste.

The voting of the above mentioned Project of Resolution was postponed to next Monday.

Today’s Plenary Session was chaired by the President of the National Parliament, Francisco Guterres “Lu-Olo” together with the Vice-President, Mr. Jacob Fernandes and the Secretary of the Mesa, Mr. Francisco Carlos Soares.

In the Period before the Agenda the following information was given to the MPs:

  • Information on the mandate of the Independent Special Commission ofInquiry: the President of the NP explained to the MPs that he does not know yet when the Commission’s report will be handed over to the NP. He clarified that the report will be translated into Bahasa Indonesia, Portuguese and Tetum;
  • Report on the attack by the Railos Group and PNTL officers inLiquica;
  • Appeal to the nation of H.E. The President of the Republic, Mr. Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão;
  • Report from the IDPs camps: the MPs showed their concern on thesituation of the IDPs, situation that will soon get worse due to the beginning of the rainy season. The Government should clarify its plan to resolve the difficult security and humanitarian situation the IDPs arefacing;
  • Presentation of the report of visit to Oecussi of the Committee of Economy and Finance;
  • Presentation of the monthly report of the Committee of Economy and Finance.

In the Period of the Agenda the plenary continued the discussion inthe specialty of the Project of Resolution n. 23/I/4a about “National Symbols”.  (RDTL - PARLAMENTO NACIONAL)

Today’s Plenary session was chaired by the Vice-President of theNational Parliament, Mr. Jacob Fernandes, the Secretary of the Mesa, Mr.Francisco Carlos Soares and the Vice-Secretaries, Ms. Maria Terezinha Viegas and Ms. Maria Avalziza Lourdes.  In the Period before the Agenda, the Party Bench Leader of Fretilin, Mr. Elizario Ferreira, read a declaration about the crisis situation in Timor-Leste. He underlined the difficulties faced by the members of his party, who are being intimidated and threatened since last April. Despite this, the Fretilin party has shown its maturity, by avoiding direct confrontation and respecting the rule of law, the multiparty system, based on the will of people, and the dignity of everybody. Mr. Ferreira highlighted that Fretilin wants to reestablish peace and stability to ensure that the justice system will be able to work impartially in Timor-Leste.  In the Period of the Agenda the plenary continued the discussion in the specialty of the Project of Resolution n. 23/I/4a about “NationalSymbols”.  (RDTL - PARLAMENTO NACIONAL)
